Tool Offers Live Debuts At Aftershock

Tool returned to the stage on Sunday for the first time since the release of their long-awaited album, Fear Inoculum, in August. The band’s set at the Aftershock festival in Sacramento’s Discovery Park included the live debuts of the album’s title track and “Pneuma” from Fear Inoculum.

Vocalist Maynard James Keenan, bassist Justin Chancellor, drummer Danny Carey and guitarist Adam Jones kicked off their Aftershock performance and fall tour with “Fear Inoculum.” Tool then treated fans to “Ænema,” one of three songs from their 1997 album of the same name to make the setlist along with “Forty Six & 2” and “Stinkfist.” Meanwhile, 2006’s 10,000 Days was represented by “The Pot” and “Jambi.”

Earlier this year, Tool unveiled the live version of “Invincible,” which would appear on Fear Inoculum, three months before the LP’s release. Last night, the quartet played the song in the middle of their set and went on to play a string of classics. Tool ended their Aftershock appearance with their first ever live rendition of “Pneuma,” the second track on Fear Inoculum.
