On Saturday night guitarist/songwriter/producer Jonathan Wilson and guitarist Mike Campbell hosted the fourth annual Merry Minstrel Musical Circus holiday gathering and jamathon at The Troubadour in Los Angeles. The evening saw performances from Wilson’s band, Campbell’s Dirty Knobs project, Dawes, Jackson Browne and the first Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers set of 2015.
Many other musicians participated at some point during the benefit including ELO’s Jeff Lynne, Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles and Jim James and Bo Koster of My Morning Jacket. James and Koster were among Dawes’ guests, while Lynne sat-in with his old Traveling Wilburys bandmate Tom Petty. Wilson was joined by many guests such as guitarist Duane Betts, songwriter Father John Misty and vocalist Nikki Lane. Heartbreakers drummer Steve Ferrone was unavailable, so Dirty Knobs drummer Matt Laug filled his role on Saturday night for a set that featured “Last Dance With Mary Jane,” “Dogs On The Run,” “Thirteen Days,” “Runnin’ Down A Dream,” “Little Red Rooster,” “I’m A Man” and more. Lynne sat-in on “Poor House,” “Roll Over Beethoven” and additional tunes.
Videographer Blisstanger captured plenty of footage at the event. Watch five of the highlights:
