Listen To Previously Unreleased Tom Petty Song From ‘Wildflowers’ Sessions

Amazon Music recently premiered a previously unreleased Tom Petty song, “What’s The Matter With Louise,” which arrived on Friday marking the late rocker’s birthday. The new tune is also part of the streaming rollout for the new Tom Petty documentary, Somewhere You Feel Free: The Making of Wildflowers, which is streaming now on Amazon Prime Video following a theater premiere in October 2021.

The Mary Wharton-directed doc traces the Wildflowers period between 1993 and 1995. The landmark album saw the rock legend working with renowned producer Rick Rubin for the first time.

Although 1994’s Wildflowers marked Tom’s second solo effort, members of his longtime band The Heartbreakers contributed to the record with guitarist Mike Campbell co-producing. Somewhere You Feel Free: The Making of Wildflowers boasts interviews with Campbell and Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench as well as rarely seen 16mm film footage from the Wildflowers sessions.

Arriving on what would have been Tom Petty’s 73rd birthday, the previously unreleased Wildflowers outtake, “What’s The Matter With Louise,” is also available as an Amazon Music Original. Find it below:
