The latest installment of Phish lyricist Tom Marshall’s Under The Scales podcast features a chat with HeadCount executive director Andy Bernstein. Andy and Tom talked about a number of topics including HeadCount, the Pharmer’s Almanac and more.

The episode started with a discussion of the Pharmer’s Almanac, a book first published in 1995 with Phish stories and setlists. Bernstein, one of the book’s authors and founders, spoke about how the project came together, its early days and some drama he and other Pharmer’s Almanac had with both Phish’s first fan Amy Skelton and the Phish.net Team. Andy and Tom went on to discuss how Bernstein co-founded HeadCount (a national, nonpartisan, non-profit, organization that works with musicians to promote participation in democracy in the United States) with the Disco Biscuits bassist Marc Brownstein in 2004.

The talk then turned to a recent controversial article about race and Phish posted on HeadCount’s website. Marshall ended the episode by revealing the next episode of Under The Scales will conclude the first season of the podcast and that the show will return soonthereafter with a new format.
