Throwback Thursday | The Band On Saturday Night Live

Less than a month before The Band were set to end their touring career with a concert dubbed “The Last Waltz” in San Francisco, the pioneering rock act made their lone appearance on NBC’s Saturday Night Live. The Band performed four songs on the October 30, 1976 episode of the new-at-the-time sketch comedy show, which featured Buck Henry as host.

Levon, Rick, Garth, Richard and Robbie were joined by a horn section for their SNL performances. We’ve come across video of The Band performing “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” “Life Is A Carnival” and “Stage Fright” on Saturday Night Live, but have yet to find a clip of the “Georgia On My Mind” that Richard Manuel sang on the episode.
