While 2024 has been an extremely quiet year for The Who, 2025 looks to be different. The Who guitarist Pete Townshend said “we will definitely do something next year” in a recent interview.
Pete Townshend and The Who vocalist Roger Daltrey recently gathered to start hashing out the band’s future. “I met with Roger for lunch a couple of weeks ago. We’re in good form. We love each other,” Townshend told The Standard. “We’re both getting a bit creaky, but we will definitely do something next year.”

The Standard’s James Hall went on to ask if Townshend was referring to a tour or an album. “The album side of it… Roger’s not keen. But I would love to do another album and I may try to bully him on that,” Townshend, who turns 80 in May, noted. “The last big tours that we’ve done have been with a full orchestra, which was glorious, but we’re now eager to make a noise and make a mess and make mistakes,” the guitarist added in hinting The Who would go back to their core touring band.
Though Townshend didn’t get into specifics, he did discuss his interest in a specific venue while talking to NME this past summer. “I must admit, I’m interested in the [Las Vegas] Sphere – just as a crazy, narcissistic art school thing. It’s interesting as a venue because it challenges you to beat the fabric of the theatre.”
The Who has played sporadically since mounting their most recent tour in 2022. The band’s latest gigs were a pair of Teenage Cancer Trust benefits at London's Royal Albert Hall back in March.
