The Werks Team With Cummins & Bowling For ‘2001’ On Jam Cruise

On the third day of this year’s Jam Cruise Ohio jam-rockers The Werks played a set at the outdoor Brews At Sea Stage that longtime fans called among the best in the band’s history. The Werks’ performance came to a climax with a raging cover of “Also Sprach Zarathrustra,” aka “2001,” featuring contributions from keyboardists Joel Cummins and Holly Bowling.

Cummins, Umphrey’s McGee’s keyboardist, and Bowling, best known for her inventive Phish interpretations, became quick friends on the trip and the next day offered interlocking solo piano sets at the boat’s Atrium, where they combined forces on “Tweezer Reprise” > “Cemetery Walk II.” The pair joined Werks keyboardist Dan Shaw to provide a three-keyboard attack for the well-jammed “2001” to end The Werks’ second and final Jam Cruise 14 set.
