The War On Drugs Busts Out Bob Dylan Cover In Austin

By Andy Kahn Oct 3, 2017 6:37 am PDT

The War On Drugs held the second of two shows on Sunday night at Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater in Austin, Texas. Sunday’s encore began with the band’s first performance of a Bob Dylan cover since 2014.

Frontman Adam Granduciel led the group through several songs from their just-released studio album A Deeper Understanding. The show opened with a trio of tracks from the album, “In Chains,” “Holding On” and “Pain.” The concert also saw takes on Lost In The Dream cuts such as “An Ocean in Between the Waves,” and the main set closing pairing of “Under The Pressure” with “In Reverse.”

Granduciel returned to the stage with the band for an encore that began with Dylan’s “Tangled Up In Blue.” The War On Drugs covered the song several times in 2014, but this marked its first performance on their current tour. The Slave Ambient track “Brothers” closed out the show.
