The War On Drugs Busts Out Bob Dylan Cover In Washington DC

The War On Drugs brought their tour in support of I Don't Live Here Anymore to The Anthem in Washington D.C. on Wednesday. Last night’s encore began with the band’s first cover of Bob Dylan’s “Born In Time” since 2015.

Led by Adam Granduciel, The War On Drugs opened with “Old Skin” from I Don’t Live Here Anymore. The song was one of six from the group’s latest studio album to make the setlist in Washington D.C. The concert also featured four tunes a piece from 2017’s A Deeper Understanding and 2014’s Lost In The Dream as well as “Brothers” and “Come To The City” off Slave Ambient.

After closing the main set with expansive takes on “Under The Pressure” and “Eyes To The Wind,” Granduciel and company returned to the stage for an encore that started with “Born In Time.” The War On Drugs last played the song from Bob Dylan’s 1990 album Under The Red Sky on May 24, 2015 as per Setlist.FM. “This is a Bob Dylan cover, why?” Granduciel exclaimed in introing “Born In Time” and added, “Because we like it, that’s why. It’s our version of an outtake.” The War On Drugs went on to end the evening with A Deeper Understanding pairing “Thinking Of A Place” and “In Chains.”
