The Strokes Break Out ‘Between Love & Hate’ In Mexico City

The Strokes unearthed the rarity “Between Love & Hate” as the penultimate song of their concert on Thursday night at Foro Sol in Mexico City. Last night marked the group’s first performance of the Room On Fire cut since 2010.

The Strokes treated fans in Mexico City to a 20-song performance. Julian Casablancas and company kicked off the evening with “Bad Decisions,” one of six tracks from 2020’s The New Abnormal to make the setlist at Foro Sol. The band’s latest album was also represented by “Eternal Summer,” “Brooklyn Bridge To Chorus,” “The Adults Are Talking,” “Selfless” and “At The Door.” Both “Selfless” and “At The Door” were played for just the third time live last night.

Thursday’s concert also went heavy on classic material from the band’s first three albums: 2001’s Is This It, 2003’s Room On Fire and 2005’s First Impressions Of Earth. Is This It’s “Hard To Explain,” “New York City Cops,” “Someday,” “Take It Or Leave It” and “Trying Your Luck” all saw action last night, while four songs a piece from Room On Fire and First Impressions Of Earth were played in Mexico City.

Last night’s encore began with Angles standout “Under Cover Of Darkness,” which was played last month in Brooklyn for the first time since 2016. “You Only Live Once” followed before The Strokes shocked fans with the “Between Love & Hate” bust out. “We haven’t played that song in a long time,” Casablancas told the crowd following the tune last performed on October 8, 2010 as per Setlist.FM. The aforementioned “Take It Or Leave It” closed out the concert.
