On November 27, David Kramer Productions presented a “65th Birthday Celebration for Jimi Hendrix” at B.B. King Blues Club. This show featured Cornell Dupree, Chuck Rainey, Larry Coryell, Dr. John, David “Honeyboy” Edwards, Jack Casady (Hot Tuna), Terry Reid, Jim McCarty and more. David Kramer has been working on an epic documentary about Hendrix for over 16 years. Clips from the not-yet-released film were shown in between sets. This birthday celebration has become an annual tradition at B.B. King’s and always offers classic moments, surprise guests and collaborations. Seeing Dr. John play with jazz/studio legends Cornell Dupree (guitar) and Chuck Rainey (bass) was a perfect example.
37 years after his passing, Jimi Hendrix remains a massive influence that continues to be celebrated with events like these.
