Hip-hop infused brass band The Soul Rebels swung through New York City recently where they stopped by Paste Studios to perform three songs for the culture magazine. The New Orleans-based band kicks off the session with two tracks from their upcoming album, Poetry In Motion, which arrives this fall via Mac Avenue and is their first LP in seven years.
The Soul Rebels got the session underway with “Musica” followed by “Real Life.” Paying homage to one of New York City’s most famous native sons, they closed out their Paste session with a cover of “If I Ruled The World (Imagine That)” by Nas. The song sees trumpet player Julian Gosin handling the bars while trombone player Paul Robertson sings the hook, which is sung by Ms. Lauryn Hill on the original.
