The Shins Perform NPR ‘Tiny Desk Concert’
By Andy Kahn Jul 25, 2017 • 8:36 am PDT

Earlier this year The Shins released their fifth studio album Heartworms. Frontman James Mercer recently performed a solo acoustic set for NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert series featuring a pair of songs from the new record as well as a classic from the group’s catalog.
With just an unamplified acoustic guitar and single microphone Mercer opened the appearance at Bob Boilen’s desk with the Heartworms track “Mildenhall.” He followed that song with fellow album cut “The Fear.” Finally, Mercer offered a take on “Young Pilgrims” from the 2003 The Shins album Chutes Too Narrow.
