The Roots & Bilal Perform ‘Tiny Desk Concert’

Versatile hip-hop band The Roots recently traveled to Washington D.C. to perform a Tiny Desk Concert for NPR Music. The session featured The Tonight Show house band joined by guest vocalist Bilal.

The collaborative Tiny Desk Concert performance featured the song “It Ain’t Fair.” The Roots and Bilal recorded the track for Detroit movie soundtrack. Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, the feature film is based on the 1967 12th Street Riot in Detroit. Bilal was backed by drummer Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, emcee Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter and the Brass Heaven horn section featuring trombonists Jeff Bradshaw and Curtis L. Jones Jr., saxophonists Richard L. Tate II and Hiruy E. Tirfe, trumpeters Arnetta Johnson and Joseph Streater and sousaphonist Damon Bryson.

Questlove was very happy with how the session came out:
