The Revivalists paid tribute to both Irma Thomas and The Rolling Stones on Friday at the 50th annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. The band headlined the Gentilly Stage, completing a seven-year climb up the lineup that started with an 11:15 a.m. performance on the same stage in 2012.

“I can’t tell you how huge an honor it is to be up here on this stage in front of all of you beautiful, smiling faces,” frontman David Shaw told the crowd as per Keith Spera of The Advocate. “This is our hometown!” The Revivalists took the audience back to 1964 with a performance of “Time Is On My Side.” Irma Thomas and The Rolling Stones each released versions of the Jerry Ragovoy-penned tune in 1964. Shaw shouted out fellow New Orleanian Irma Thomas before The Revivalists tackled the tune with the help of vocalists Josh Kagler and Tank and the BangasAnjelika “Jelly” Joseph. The Rolling Stones were supposed to perform at this year’s Jazz Fest before Mick Jagger’s health issues led the band to cancel.
