The New Mastersounds Announce Tribute To Melvin Sparks At Brooklyn Bowl

English funk quartet The New Mastersounds will play three nights and one afternoon show at Brooklyn Bowl in New York City spanning May 11 – 13. The band has announced a tribute to the late, great soul jazz guitarist Melvin Sparks will take place as part of the finale on the night of May 13.
A number of musical guests have been confirmed for The New Mastersounds’ Sparks tribute set. Melvin’s organist Reuben Wilson is aboard as are horn players Neal Sugarman and David Guy. In addition, Sparks’ guitar protégé Solomon Hicks and Bill Carbone, who played drums in Melvin’s band up until the latter’s passing in early 2011, will sit-in.
The New Mastersounds will issue Melvin Sparks – Live At Nectar’s mixed and produced by Eddie Roberts on April 28 via their One Note Records imprint. It was recorded just months before Sparks’ death. Tickets for TNM’s tribute to Melvin Sparks are on sale now via Ticketfly.
