The National To Perform ‘Day Of The Dead’ Cover On ‘Late Show With Stephen Colbert’

The National will perform a song from the Day Of The Dead tribute to the Grateful Dead on the Monday, May 9 episode of CBS’s The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Brothers Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National curated the years-in-the-making Day Of The Dead compilation which comes out May 20 via 4AD.
Day Of The Dead features 59 tracks and over five hours of music performed by acts from the indie world and beyond including The War On Drugs, Jim James, Bruce Hornsby, Courtney Barnett, Mumford & Sons, Wilco, Kurt Vile & The Violators, Lucius, Bela Fleck, The Walkmen, Real Estate, Hiss Golden Messenger and Unknown Mortal Orchestra. The box set also features contributions from Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir.
The National contributed versions of “Peggy-O” and “Morning Dew” as well as a live rendition of “I Know You Rider” featuring Weir to the compilation. Members of the band were also part of the house band that backed many of the musicians on Day Of The Dead.
