The National Honors Daniel Johnston

The National covered ’s “Devil Town” during their concert Wednesday night in Houston. Johnston, a longtime Austin, Texas resident, suffered a heart attack and died on Tuesday at the age of 58.
The National’s tribute to Johnston came during the evening’s encore at The Lawn at White Oak Music Hall. The band began by playing “Not In Kansas” from their recently issued studio album, I Am Easy To Find. Featuring additional vocals by This Is The Kit (Kate Stables), Hannah Georgas and trumpeter Kyle Resnick, the musicians then segued into Johnston’s often covered “Devil Town” from his 1990 album 1990.
“That was for Daniel Johnston, who left us,” said The National frontman . “We’re still here. We got this.”
