The Infamous Stringdusters dobroist Andy Hall announced a new solo album, Squareneck Soul, due out via Americana Vibes on June 23. Hall also shared the single, “Up In Bigfoot Country,” featuring an all-star cast of bluegrass musicians.
The follow-up to Hall’s 2021 ambient album A Universe Within, Squareneck Soul — a “squareneck” is a type of resonator guitar — is comprised of 10 original instrumental tracks built for bluegrass improvisation.
“Squareneck Soul is truly a project from my heart and my soul,” Andy said of the new LP. “A slide guitar record 15 years in the making. It’s a collection of original instrumental tunes designed as a template for bluegrass improvisation. I think of it as a musical playground for some world-class pickers!”
Speaking of world-class pickers, Squareneck Soul sees a guest spot from guitarist Billy Strings. The lead single, “Up In Bigfoot Country,” boasts contributions from a bluegrass star-studded band featuring Sierra Hull on mandolin, Bryan Sutton on guitar, Wes Corbett on banjo and Andy’s Dusters bandmate Travis Book on bass.
