The dB’s detailed their first tour dates in 12 years. The run will feature all of the New York City-born band’s original members and gets underway in September.
The dB’s — guitarist Peter Holsapple, bassist Gene Holder, drummer Will Rigby and guitarist Chris Stamey — are touring around a recent Propeller Sound Recordings reissue of their 1981 debut album, Stands for deciBels, which is seeing a digital, CD and for the first time, vinyl release.

“Stands for deciBels was the first place many people heard The dB’s — thanks to intrepid college deejays who brought their personal copies into the stations,” Holsapple stated. “Hopefully those old disc jockeys can now replace their original copies with pristine new ones.”
R.E.M.’s Mike Mills also commented on Stands for deciBels.
“This is the one that let me know we weren’t alone, that there were others out there with the same curiosity, the same willingness to dive into melody, structure and pop sensibility with no fear, no reserve, only joy and well-deserved excitement. I still love listening to Stands for deciBels, and I always will.”
The dB’s get their first tour in 12 years underway on September 7 at Raleigh’s Hopscotch Festival in the band members’ native North Carolina.
Following that, the band will perform in Washington on September 13, Philadelphia on September 14 and Jersey City (New Jersey) on September 15.
The tour continues on October 11 at the Amsterdam Bar and Hall in Saint Paul. The tour will conclude in Chicago on October 12 at the Old Town School of Folk Music.
