Over two years have passed since The Avett Brothers released their most recent studio album True Sadness. Band members have discussed at various points that they are working with longtime producer Rick Rubin on a new LP. In perhaps a preview of what the 10th Avett Brothers studio album would sound like, the group premiered a new original entitled “Trouble Letting Go” last night at Fox Cities PAC in Appleton, Wisconsin.
The Avett Brothers treated fans to a career-spanning main set of 21 songs in Appleton including a handful of tunes from True Sadness and 2009’s I And Love And You. A cover of the traditional “Black Mountain Rag” opened the encore before the group dug into “Trouble Letting Go” for the first time. The new composition has all the hallmarks of the group’s best material. Seth Avett and Scott Avett traded off lead vocal duties at the start of the song and then harmonized throughout the rest. The Avett Brothers followed the debut with a stirring performance of “No Hard Feelings” to bring the concert to a close. Watch fan-shot video of the new song filmed by kjk 8777:
