The City Council of San Rafael approved plans for Terrapin Crossroads to develop Beach Park allowing the concert venue and restaurant owned and operated by Phil Lesh to hold 30 outdoor Saturday concerts per year. Terrapin Crossroads leased the land from the city last September for $15,000 annually. Over the course of the seven-year deal the venue is required to implement at least $100,000 in improvements to Beach Park which will include an artificial lawn, bocce and volleyball courts and picnic areas.

The new area will be family friendly Terrapin Crossroads executive and operations assistant Tara Patton told the Marin Independent Journal. “We do have plans to have lots and lots of activities for children including hula hoops and bubbles,” said Patton. “We think it would be a great place for families to come.”
The agreement also calls on Terrapin Crossroads to host seven free community events each year. Food will also be served outdoors and a new dock will be built along the San Rafael Canal. “I envision a lot of things taking place on the canal, which is otherwise ignored. I think it’s going to be exciting,” San Rafael Parks and Recreation Commission’s Ralph Mihan told the Marin Independent Journal.
Phil Lesh & Friends play Terrapin Crossroads Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7, featuring Lesh, Chris Robinson, Stu Allen, Adam MacDougall, Neal Casal and Ezra Lipp.
