Tenacious D conducted a New Year’s Eve concert at The Theater At Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas on Saturday. In true Vegas style, Jack Black and Kyle Gass raised the stakes on the concert by spinning the “Wheel Of D” which contained a number of the duo’s rarities.

JB, KG and their band kicked off the show with “The Metal” from Tenacious D’s 2006 film/album The Pick Of Destiny. The duo then took it back to their stellar self-titled debut album with “Dio,” a tribute to the second Black Sabbath frontman. “Low Hangin’ Fruit” from the band’s Grammy-nominated 2012 LP Rize Of The Fenix followed.

The first cover of the evening came in the form of Thin Lizzy’s “Jailbreak” along with some theatrics from JB. The title track to Rize Of The Fenix followed before the duo conducted their beloved “Sax-A-Boom” bit, which saw KG “playing” the iconic “Baker Street” sax solo on his “Max-A-Boom,” blowing Jabbles out of the water much to the frontman’s chagrin. JB and KG then had a mimed “fight” culminating in Kyle leaving, as he is wont to do, and Jack going it alone on “Dude, I Totally Miss You” naturally followed by “Kyle Quit The Band” and the lead guitarist’s triumphant return.

More Tenacious D in “Friendship” and “Kielbasa” came next before the Elvis Presley Sin City anthem “Viva Las Vegas.” A fan then spun the Wheel Of D with the pointer landing on “Malibu Nights” to which JB remarked, “No one wants that one!” But the wheel had spoken, and the duo performed the Tenacious D deep cut. Next, the The D paid homage to Las Vegas legend Tom Jones with “It’s Not Unusual.” Jack spun the Wheel Of D one last time before the countdown with the pointer landing on Rize Of The Fenix’s “39,” on which they changed the lyrics to “49” as it’s been 10 years since the song arrived.

After the countdown, it was finally time for “Auld Lang Syne” before the band reeled off a list of classics like “Tribute,” “Kickapoo,” “Beelzeboss (The Final Showdown)” and “Double Team,” the latter of which saw JB teasing Sabbath’s “War Pigs.” Tenacious D returned to encore with “Fuck Her Gently” to cap off the concert.
