This past Wednesday night, the Tedeschi Trucks Band brought The Wheels Of Soul Tour also featuring Los Lobos and North Mississippi Allstars to Bethel Woods in Bethel, New York next to the site where the Woodstock Festival was held in 1969. The TTB honored the location and guitarist Carlos Santana’s birthday by debuting their fiery take on “Soul Sacrifice.” Today, the Tedeschi Trucks Band has shared video of their rehearsal session ahead of the public performance of “Soul Sacrifice”:

The Tedeschi Trucks Band opened their set at Bethel Woods with a cover of Sly & The Family Stone’s “Are You Ready” and it was a fitting question for what would be an impressive performance. Los Lobos guitarist David Hidalgo came out for “What Knows What Tomorrow May Bring” (Traffic) and “The Sky Is Crying” (Elmore James). Later in the night Dickinson added to a version of John Prine’s “Angel From Montgomery” that included portions of “Sugaree” by the Grateful Dead. However it’s the finale of the TTB’s main set that had people talking.

With Cody Dickinson aboard on washboard, the Tedeschi Trucks Band lit into a cover of Santana’s “Soul Sacrifice.” The TTB debut was played within a mile of where Santana delivered a “Soul Sacrifice” at the original Woodstock Festival which remains one of the top moments of music history’s most famous festival. Derek Trucks held nothing back as he unleashed a jaw-dropping solo worthy of the tune and location. The TTB said farewell with an encore of Bob Dylan’s “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere” and The Beatles’ “With A Little Help From My Friends.” The tour continues on Friday in North Carolina.
