Tedeschi Trucks Band Pays Tribute To George Harrison At Warner Theatre

Last night the Warner Theatre hosted an evening with the Tedeschi Trucks Band two set performance that wrapped the group’s three-show run at the Washington D.C. venue. TTB covered several songs in tribute to the late George Harrison on what would have been The Beatles guitarist’s birthday.

Like Friday night, Susan Tedeschi led the band through an opening cover of The Staples Singers’ “Freedom Highway” followed by “Laugh About It” and “Don’t Know What It Means” from their 2016 LP Let Me Get By. Toward the middle of the first set the band launched into Harrison’s Beatles tune “Within You Without You” following it with their “Just As Strange.” Covers of “The Sky Is Crying” by Elmore James and “Bitches Brew” by Miles Davis came ahead of the “Let Met Get By” set closer.

Guitarist Derek Trucks led the charge through the second set opening “Statesboro Blues” performance which was trailed by “Don’t Drift Away.” Harrison’s “Wah-Wah” from his landmark solo album All Things Must Pass was then paired with Susan leading a subsequent cover of his The Beatles favorite “Something.” Set two ended with “Volunteered Slavery,” “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free” and “I Pity The Fool.” Pianist Kofi Burbridge accompanied Susan on a cover of Leon Russell’s “A Song For You” to begin the encore that ended with a full band medley made up of “I Want More,” “Les Brers in A Minor” and “Soul Sacrifice.”
