Tedeschi Trucks Band continued their residency at the Beacon Theatre in New York on Saturday night. The band delivered a mini acoustic set to start off the second set that included a dedication to Derek Trucks Band drummer Yonrico Scott who died last week.
TTB got things going with “Anyhow” followed by “Do I Look Worried” and “Don’t Know What It Means.” The Box Tops’ “The Letter” came next ahead of “Right On Time,” a cover of Willie Nelson’s “Somebody Pick Up My Pieces,” “Just As Strange” and “Midnight In Harlem.” The band closed out the first set with Spooner Oldham’s “Sweet Inspiration.”
After a break, Derek and Susan took up their acoustic format beginning with “Back Where I Started,” a Derek Trucks Band song dedicated to Scott, who was also the drummer for Trucks’ early group. The band delivered three more acoustic numbers with “I Am Yours,” “Meet Me At The Bottom” and “When Will I Begin.”
TTB “plugged back in” and continued with “Let Me Get By” and Derek And The Dominos’ “Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad” which saw bluesman Junior Mack joining the band. Up next, a cover of Allen Toussaint’s “Get Out Of My Life, Woman” and “They Don’t Shine.” A trio of covers followed with John Prine’s “Angel From Montgomery,” the Grateful Dead’s “Sugaree” and “The Sky Is Crying” by blues legend Elmore James. “The Storm” would then lead into The Allman Brothers’ “Whipping Post” to close out the second set.
Tedeschi Trucks Band reemerged for an encore of Matthew Moore’s “Space Captain” made famous by Joe Cocker. Check out video from the acoustic set and more captured by Sean Roche below:
