TAUK’s Alric Carter Sits-In With Umphrey’s McGee In Richmond

Umphrey’s McGee and TAUK continued a run of shows together last night at The National in Richmond, Virginia. The Valentine’s Day performance saw UM continue to bust out tunes as well as play two covers for the first time since their debut on New Year’s Eve, one of which included another sit-in from TAUK keyboardist Alric “A.C.” Carter.

UM opened their portion of the evening taking “Hourglass” out of the first “Cummins Lies” since February of last year. The first half of “In The Kitchen” then gave way to “Miami Virtue.” Next, guitarist Jake Cinninger led the band through the first of two rarities in the form of his “Liquid.” Another rarely played Safety In Numbers selection, “The Weight Around” was performed for just the 10th time, and first since March of last year. At this point the band again welcomed TAUK’s A.C. to sit-in, having him add organ to their second rendition of Squeeze’s “Tempted” which had made its debut on NYE. A.C. left UM to finish out the set with “Bad Friday.”

Set two began with “40’s Theme” featuring a “No Quarter” tease and a well-jammed “1348” that ultimately found the end of “In The Kitchen” to close out the song started in the first set. The rest of the second half included “Higgins,” “Speak Up,” “The Floor,” and “Resolution” which came to a conclusion with the final segment of “1348” to close out the set. For the encore Umphrey’s returned to a cover first played in Denver on New Year’s, giving just their second reading of R. Kelly’s “Ignition” to finish out the show.
