Targhee Music Camp | Learn From Jeff Austin & Others

By Scott Bernstein May 23, 2014 10:20 am PDT

The Grand Targhee Resort in Alta, WY will host the Targhee Music Camp on August 4 -7. The camp focuses on individual instrumental skills, group playing, singing and jamming, with each day set to feature morning and afternoon classes with your chosen instrument, elective workshops, jam sessions (both structured and unstructured) and evening performances.

The 2014 Targhee instructors include Jeff Austin (songwriting), Danny Barnes (banjo), Grant Gordy (guitar), Roy Andrade (old time banjo and fiddle) and Joe Walsh (mandolin). The Lomax Project will be the Band In Residence for the camp. Registration is available via the camp’s website and includes classes, meals, accommodations, evening performances, workshops, instruction and more.

“For my part, I will be working with students on two aspects of the live musical experience: songwriting and performance studies. For the songwriting side, we will be exploring just what inspires and drives us to write…to dive into personal experiences and exercises to bring to the surface the words, melodies and ideas that are the very beginning of the life of a song. And…performance. We will be stretching the imagination for this one…heading outside of our comfort zones and seeing where that inner desire to entertain people comes from. Ranging from group exercises to individual storytelling…we will see just what it is to be onstage and not just entertain…but, to inspire others to explore their own voice and talents,” Jeff Austin told us about his participation in the Targhee Music Camp. “I am beyond excited to be a part of the Camp at Grand Targhee for 2014. A new and beautiful experience I cannot wait to share with all those involved.”
