Tame Impala began their North American tour in support of their new album, The Slow Rush, with an opening night performance Monday at Pechanga Arena in San Diego. The setlist for Monday’s concert included the live debut of several The Slow Rush songs.
The first of those debuts was the opening selection, “One More Year” that was followed by “Borderline,” which the band debuted on Saturday Night Live. A pair of first-timers followed in the form of “Reality in Motion” and “Posthumous Forgiveness.” Frontman Kevin Parker then led the group through the Innerspeaker track “Alter Ego” ahead of their debut cover of Lady Gaga‘s “Perfect Illusion.” The set continued with another Innerspeaker selection, purportedly the band’s first public performance of “Expectation” since 2012.
“Lost In Yesterday” and “Breathe Deeper,” which they performed recently on Jimmy Kimmel Live, were played in between Lonerism cuts “Elephant” and “Apocalypse Dreams.” It was then time for another The Slow Rush debut, “Past Life,” with the Currents track “Nags” coming after. A couple of songs later came back-to-back debuts, “Is It True” and “Glimmer.” The band closed the set with “Let It Happen” off Currents and pulled from the same record for the encore that consisted of “The Less I Know the Better” and “Eventually.” Watch audience-shot video clips from San Diego below:
