SweetWater 420 Fest :: 4.22.17
Centennial Olympic Park :: Atlanta

The 2017 installment of the SweetWater 420 Fest continued on Saturday at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta. Ron Pope kicked off the afternoon on the SweetWater Stage and was followed by Anders Osborne whose band focused on songs from Flowerbox such as the title track and “Different Drum.” Big Something and Dopapod were two of the featured performers on the Planet 420 Stage with the latter’s set including a jam on Britney Spears’ “Toxic.” Jackie Greene brought the music on the Planet 420 Stage to a close with a set that contained a career-spanning mix of originals and a tip of the hat to the location with a cover of the Allman Brothers Band’s “Hot’lanta.”

New Orleans funk-rockers Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue had a mid-afternoon slot at the fest and their set included a focus on material from Parking Lot Symphony and a toast from the brewery’s principals. Slighty Stoopid were the day’s penultimate performers on the main Sweetwater Stage. The band’s 90-minute set showed off their genre-spanning sound and even featured a take on “Franklin’s Tower” by the Grateful Dead. Widespread Panic closed out Saturday at the 420 Fest with two sets and an encore. John Bell & Co. focused on old school material for the vast majority of both sets right from the start with “Pigeons” and “Henry Parsons Died.” Other fan-favorites performed on Saturday by WSP included “C. Brown,” “Holden Oversoul,” “Ride Me High” and “Fishwater.” Panic ended the night with a “Porch Song” encore.

The festival concludes on Sunday with performances from Widespread Panic, Ween, Dark Star Orchestra, Letttuce and more. Photographer Ian Rawn has shared an extensive gallery documenting the action on Saturday at SweetWater 420 Fest ’17:
