Over the past two nights Chicago’s Soldier Field has played host to Fare Thee Well -Celebrating 50 Years Of Grateful Dead concerts. An obvious choice of venue to host the final farewell from the remaining “core four” Grateful Dead members –Bill Kreutzmann, Mickey Hart, Phil Lesh and Bob Weir -Soldier Field was first visited by The Dead in 1991 and they came back each summer until the band’s final show on July 9, 1995.

In advance of tonight’s second final performance of significance in the history of the Grateful Dead at Soldier Field, below are videos featuring footage from the band’s final two stands at the stadium along Lake Michigan. The July 23, 1994 show and July 8, 1995 show are presented completely while partial footage of the final set on July 9, 1995 is also included. While the performances may not be representative of The Dead at the top of their game, there are moments of brilliance and if nothing more it’s worth another look back at Jerry Garcia’s last time on stage playing in the band.
