Suki Waterhouse visited Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday to perform “Model, Actress, Whatever.” The song appears on her new studio album, Memoirs of a Sparklemuffin.
Critics have tried putting Waterhouse’s music and persona into a tidy box for years. On “Model, Actress, Whatever,” the British singer-songwriter breaks free from labels.

“It’s me taking control of that narrative in some way. I have so much belief in not silencing yourself, not quietening yourself and going in the opposite direction and making it into art,” Waterhouse told NME of the song. “I wanted to imbue the video with a lot of humour because, well, it’s funny. I wanted to make a song called ‘Model, Actress, Whatever’ and hear that on the radio or something – ‘Suki Waterhouse, model, actress, whatever’. There’s a release and a freedom in taking the p*** out of yourself a little bit.”
Memoirs of a Sparklemuffin, Waterhouse’s second studio album, arrived via Sub Pop Records on September 13. “Model, Actress, Whatever,” was released as its final advance single.
