JamBase partner Osiris Media unveiled the first episode of Sugar Maple, a new fiction podcast. Additional installments for the eight-episode season are due out every Tuesday through May 3.

Sugar Maple marks Osiris’ first foray into fictional storytelling. The podcast traces the history of a special Fender Telecaster guitar known as “Sugar Maple” which contains a piece of mysterious wood and finds its way to various owners under bizarre circumstances. The new podcast stars Fred Savage as Terrance Woodridge, the narrator of the tale who is obsessed with the axe and provides a guide to Sugar Maple’s history.

The story begins in 1951 when orphan “Sweet Licks” Bobby Lindro leaves his home on farmlands outside Chicago to head into the city to participate in a contest for amateur guitarists. Sadly, Bobby returns to the farmland with the neck of his beloved Fender Telecaster broken. Bobby’s aunt helps salvage the Telecaster with the aforementioned mysterious piece of wood and Sugar Maple inspired Lindro to write and record the local hit “Brimstone Lampfire.” And thus, the tale of Sugar Maple begins.
