Sturgill Simpson confirmed the upcoming release of his album Sound & Fury and anime movie of the same name. Simpson worked with director Junpei Mizusaki and manga artist Takashi Okazak on the feature film.
Simpson revealed details of Sound & Fury at San Diego Comic-Con. The album, Simpson’s first since 2016’s A Sailor’s Guide To Earth, will be released by Elektra Records this fall. The accompanying anime movie, produced by and based on Simpson’s story, will be released at the same time on Netflix. According to Stereogum, each of the songs on the album will be paired with a different anime scene in the animated film.
“We went in without any preconceived notions and came out with a really sleazy, steamy rock n roll record,” Simpson stated in a press release. “It’s definitely my most psychedelic. And also my heaviest. I had this idea that it’d be really cool to animate some of these songs, and we ended up with a futuristic, dystopian, post-apocalyptic, samurai film.”
