The String Cheese Incident :: 7.4.16 :: Chastain Park Amphitheatre :: Atlanta, GA
Colorado jam titans The String Cheese Incident concluded a two-night stand at Chastain Park Amphitheatre in Atlanta on Monday night. The band’s July 4th performance saw them joined by vocalist Rhonda Thomas for portions of the second set and encore as well as the final song of the first set. SCI opened with an expansive “Valley Of The Jig”/”Got What He Wanted” sequence before a quick romp through “Dudley’s Kitchen.” Favorites “Sometimes A River” and “Smile” were also found in a first set that featured Thomas leading them through a cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Signed Sealed Delivered (I’m Yours)” to close the opening stanza.
Rhonda Thomas was on hand as The String Cheese Incident kicked off the second set with “Believe” and “Sweet Spot.” The evening’s biggest surprise came next as Thomas filled Antwaun Stanley’s role on SCI’s debut cover of Vulfpeck’s “Funky Duck.” Bill Nershi & Co. continued on without guests on “Farther” and “Howard” before ending the second set with a clever “Outside & Inside” > “Hot ‘Lanta” > “Let’s Go Outside” sequence. The band began the encore with “Black Clouds” before welcoming Rhonda Thomas back out for the fitting Fourth of July finale of “America The Beautiful.” Check out audio from last night’s show followed by Ian Rawn’s photos and the setlist:
