The String Cheese Incident and The Wood Brothers launched Beech Mountain Resort’s Summer Concert Series on Saturday night in Beech Mountain, North Carolina. SCI brought out all three members of The Wood Brothers to collaborate on a cover of Bob Marley’s “Stop That Train” during their headlining set.
The collaboration marked the first between the two bands. The Wood Brothers — guitarist Oliver Wood, bassist and multi-instrumentalist Jano Rix — emerged for the fourth song of The String Cheese Incident’s marathon set.

Written by Peter Tosh, Bob Marley & The Wailers originally released “Stop That Train” on their 1973 studio album, Catch A Fire. The String Cheese Incident premiered their version of “Stop That Train” on July 1, 2001 at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado. After covering the song seven more times through April 2003, SCI shelved the cover until 2022 outside a lone 2017 performance. “Stop That Train” returned to rotation for three additional renditions last year.
Jano Rix shared keyboard duties with SCI’s Kyle Hollingsworth on the Bob Marley cover in Beech Mountain, while Chris Wood and Keith Moseley provided double bass action. Oliver Wood helped on harmony vocals and freestyled after Michael Kang sang lead on both verses.

Each member of The Wood Brothers had a chance to solo over the course of the extended “Stop That Train” cover. Oliver Wood ripped it up on electric guitar before sibling Chris Wood traded bass licks with Moseley. Then, Jano Rix lit into one barrelhouse piano run after another. “My favorite guys, The Wood Brothers!,” Kang exclaimed at the end of the song.
