The String Cheese Incident Welcomes Todd Park Mohr At Red Rocks

Colorado’s own The String Cheese Incident continued a three-night stand in their home state at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison on Saturday night. SCI’s Saturday show saw the band joined by Big Head Todd & The Monsters frontman Todd Park Mohr for a pair of classic rock covers to start the second set after a wild entrance.

Michael Kang led the group through a well-jammed “Climb” to begin Cheese’s first set on Saturday. The more recent “Hi Ho No Show” came next along with a cover of “Ophelia” by The Band. Keyboardist Kyle Hollingsworth then fronted the group on “My One & Only” from their recently released Believe LP. From there, SCI paired up classics “Black & White” and “On The Road” before bringing the opening stanza to a conclusion with the fitting “Colorado Bluebird Sky.”

Hollingsworth and percussionist Jason Hann took the stage after setbreak and asked the crowd if they had seen the other members of the band. The remaining members of the group then proceeded to rappel from the top of the Red Rocks stage as the “Theme From Mission: Impossible” played over the P.A. with SCI eventually joining in. SCI then started the second set for real by bringing out Todd Park Mohr for covers of Eric Clapton’s “Forever Man” and “Hot’lanta” by The Allman Brothers Band. Cheese had only played “Forever Man” once prior, and Mohr led them through that version as well, on June 11, 2001.

The String Cheese Incident continued the second set after Mohr’s guest spot with a seamless run of music that began with “Jellyfish.” Up next was fan-favorite “Land’s End” followed by “Let’s Go Outside” and the funky “Howard.” SCI brought the second set to a close with “Just One Story.” For the encore, the veteran jam act said farewell with “How Mountain Girls Can Love.” The band’s Red Rocks ’17 run ends on Sunday with a live webcast available via nugs.tv.
