String Cheese Incident Welcomes Soul Rebels & Blind Boys

The musical focus of the Crescent City shifted back to the Fairgrounds yesterday for the first day of the second weekend of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. String Cheese Incident had the honors of closing out the action on the Acura Stage with a two-hour set that included appearances from New Orleans’s own Soul Rebels and the legendary Blind Boys Of Alabama.

As expected, SCI’s set leaned heavily on material from Song In My Head, the band’s new studio album, which was released early in the week. Two trombonists, a trumpeter and a saxophonist from brass band The Soul Rebels emerged to lend a hand on “Black and White” after a cover of Bob Marley’s “Bend Down Low.” The show came to a conclusion with an encore of “People Get Ready” by Curtis Mayfield with SCI accompanied by Blind Boys Of Alabama.
