Earlier this week, The String Cheese Incident shared a studio recording of a new single created at their newly established recording studio SCI Sound Lab entitled “Get Tight.” The band didn’t take long bringing the new song to the live setting, debuting the original last night in Asheville, North Carolina as they opened a two-night stand at ExploreAsheville.com Arena.
A cover of Weather Report’s “Birdland” began Friday night’s concert, with SCI dropping into the traditional “Lonesome Road Blues” before returning to the ending of the instrumental opener. After playing “Lost” > “Don’t it Make Ya Wanna Dance” and “Mouna Bowa,” fans in attendance in Asheville were treated to the first live performance of “Get Tight.” A pairing of “Little Hands” > “Beautiful” rounded out the rest of the first set.
Set two opened with the rowdy narrative rocker “Texas” which was followed by another newly added original “Hi Ho No Show.” Sticking with new material, the set continued with the recently debuted “Falling Through The Cracks” before turning to Stevie Wonder’s “I Wish” and then their “Piece Of Mind.” The second came to an end with “Is What It Is” > “Can’t Stop Now” and Bob Dylan’s “Quinn The Eskimo (The Mighty Quinn)” took up the encore slot as the first night of the two-show run came to an end.
