The String Cheese Incident Debuts New Song & Nods To Jerry Garcia At The Capitol Theatre

On Friday night The String Cheese Incident pulled into the New York City suburb of Port Chester for a three-night New Year’s run at The Capitol Theatre. The Colorado-based act offered up two sets at the historic rock palace that included a debut and a nod to the venue’s longstanding ties to the members of the Grateful Dead.
The night got underway with the one-two punch of “Indian Creek” > “Eye Know Why” busting out the latter for the first time since March of last year. The band’s first set rolled on with “Sweet Spot” from 2016’s Sound Lab, Vol. I, with “These Waves” kicking off a lengthy jam-filled run that filled out the rest of the first set. The six-piece band delivered just their seventh ever take on “Djibouti Bump,” which was followed by “Pack It Up” and a pair of the old-school classics “Born On The Wrong Planet” and “Search.”
The String Cheese Incident kicked-off their second set of the run with a newer tune “Hi Ho No Show,” which was debuted last year and featured the band working in a tease to a song they played in the first set – “Pack It Up.” Next up, came another new one as they offered up their debut take on “So Much Fun” from their most recent studio album Believe. “Best Feeling,” which was written by their longtime pal Keller Williams opened up their second jam-filled run of the night. Their ninth-ever take on Bob Marley & The Wailers’ classic “Exodus” followed, with another tune from their latest release “Flying” being played for just its fourth time live. SCI reached back for a pair of songs from their bluegrass-centric days with “Round The Wheel” and “Land’s End,” with the rarity “Glory Chords” and “Desert Dawn” closing things out.
When the band returned for their encore the used the opportunity to nod The Cap’s history with the Grateful Dead as they served their third take on “Don’t Let Go” this year. The song, which was written by Jesse Stone, but is best known as a longtime staple in Jerry Garcia Band setlists, was first debuted by SCI all the way back in 2000 before being shelved for over 14 years and had been played just four times total before this year.
