The String Cheese Incident Honors Col. Bruce Hampton In Atlanta

The String Cheese Incident honored the late Col. Bruce Hampton during their show on Saturday at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre. Guest vocalist Rhonda Thomas was onstage at the start of the second set for a cover of Hampton’s “Yield Not to Temptation.”
Thomas joined SCI during the first set on a cover of The Zutons’ “Valerie,” which was popularized by Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson. The initial collaboration came in the middle of a set that began with “Song In My Head” followed by “Water” > “Hi Ho Now Show” and concluded with “45th Of November” and “MLT” > “Boo Boo’s Pik-A-Nik” > “Into The Blue.”
The String Cheese Incident opened the second set with Thomas on vocals for “Yield Not To Temptation.” SCI previously covered the song in 1998 with the assistance of Hampton, who collapsed onstage at the Fox during his 70th birthday concert celebration in 2017. Following the tribute, “It Is What It Is” was started and before the band came back to finish the tune, they fit in a run of “The Big Reveal,” “Bhangra Saanj,” “Search” > “Joyful Sound” > “Rumble.” The set drew to a close with “Colorado Bluebird Sky.” SCI employed Thomas for a final time, bringing the vocalist back for the encore rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “I Wish.”
