Earlier this year, rock ‘n’ roll pioneer Chuck Berry passed away at the age of 90. Prior to his death, the renowned guitarist recorded a final album entitled Chuck, which is available to stream via NPR Music’s First Listen series in advance of its official release.

Dualtone Records will issue Chuck on June 9, marking Berry’s first solo album since the 1979 release of the Rock It LP. The iconic performer recorded the 10 tracks making up Chuck at studios located in his hometown of St. Louis. Contributing musicians included Tom Morello, Gary Clark Jr., Nathaniel Rateliff, Jimmy Marsala, Keith Robinson and Robert Lohr. The record also features Berry’s children Charles Berry Jr. and Ingrid Berry, as well as his grandson Charles Berry III.

“This record is dedicated to my beloved Toddy,” Chuck Berry said in a statement announcing the album while referencing to his wife of 68 years, Themetta “Toddy” Berry. “My darlin’ I’m growing old! I’ve worked on this record for a long time. Now I can hang up my shoes!”

The album includes “Lady B. Goode,” called the “spiritual sequel” to Berry’s well-known 1958 hit “Johnny B. Goode,” as well as “Wonderful Woman” which was written for Toddy. Stream Chuck via NPR Music below:
