Strand of Oaks premiered four songs from their forthcoming studio album In Heaven at the XPoNential Music Festival in Camden, New Jersey on Saturday. The set marked the first full-band Strand Of Oaks live performance since the pandemic began.
Timothy Showalter and company kicked off their 10-song set at the XPoNential Festival with “Goshen ’97” from 2014’s Heal and “Ruby” off 2019’s Eraserland. The band then reeled off four live debuts in a row as a preview of In Heaven which is due out through Showalter’s Galacticana Records imprint on October 1. Up first was the LP’s lead single, “Galacticana.” Next came Tim’s ode to John Prine, “Somewhere In Chicago,” before the run of new material ended with “Jimi & Stan” and “Horses At Night.”
From there, Strand Of Oaks went back to Eraserland for “Weird Ways” and Heal for “Shut In.” The set concluded with Eraserland’s “Forever Chords” and “Rest Of It,” a song featured on 2017’s Hard Love. Strand Of Oaks utilized the same setlist on Sunday at the Sea.Hear.Now Festival in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
