Still No Repeats For Widespread Panic Six Shows Into Fall Tour

While jam bands are known for changing it up from show to show, Widespread Panic is taking the trend to a new level this fall. Since embarking on what just may be the band’s last extensive tour of their 30 year career over a week ago, the Georgia rockers have yet to repeat a tune. Last night’s performance at the Hippodrome in Baltimore was Panic’s sixth straight without a repeat for a total of 120 different songs.

The beautiful part is that it’s not as if John Bell & Co. are playing the dregs of the Panic repertoire. Such classics as “A Of D,” “Chainsaw City,” “Who Do You Belong To?,” “1×1” and “One Kind Favor” were all performed in Charm City. The band also worked in covers of The Band’s “Ophelia” and “The Shape I’m In” as well as ended the second set with Vic Chesnutt’s “Protein Drink/Sewing Machine.”

Panic did dig a little deeper into the catalog as 14 songs played in Baltimore hadn’t been performed in at least 10 shows, which is unheard of for a typical Widespread Panic show. The evening’s biggest surprise came at the end, when WSP dusted off Neil Young’s “Last Dance,” a song they’ve been performing since their earliest days, for the first time in 174 shows (LTP – 6/7/14) to end the show.
