Last month Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks released Sparkle Hard their their seventh studio album via their longtime label Matador Records. Malkmus and his backing band are currently out on the road in support of their first LP in four years, which hit the Twin Cities last night. Prior to their sold-out show at the Turf Club in St. Paul on Friday night, the band stopped at the studios of Minneapolis public radio station The Current for a performance and interview.

Malkus along with his bandmates keyboardist Mike Clark, bassist Joanna Bolme and drummer Jake Morris chatted with The Current’s Mary Lucia and played a trio of songs from their new record, which included takes on “Middle America,” “Solid Silk” and “Refute.”
