Matador Records released Stephen Malkmus’ performance of the 1972 album, Ege Bamyasi, by highly influential German psychedelic rockers Can. The complete album performance was captured at the 2012 Week-End Fest in Cologne, Germany and is now available on streaming platforms.

Cologne-based band Von Spar backed Malkmus for the performance celebrating the 40th anniversary of Ege Bamyasi, which Matador (U.S.) and Domino (UK) put out as a limited vinyl release for Record Store Day and is now available to stream for the first time. A press release from Matador called Can’s Ege Bamyasi, “one of German psychedelic music’s defining documents.” Malkmus briefly talks about how influential the album was on him in a short documentary that also features performance footage of “Spoon” as well as words from late Can drummer Jaki Liebezeit.
