Steely Dan Plays 5 Songs Without Walter Becker For The 1st Time
By Scott Bernstein Oct 25, 2018 • 7:49 am PDT
Steely Dan continued a nine-show residency at the Beacon Theatre in New York City last night with a concert that included a full performance of Countdown To Ecstasy. The 1973 album features a handful of songs Steely Dan hadn’t played live since co-founding member Walter Becker died last September.
Donald Fagen and the Steely Dan Band made their way through the eight-song LP in order to start the night before performing a selection of beloved favorites. After opening with “Bodhisattva,” Fagen led the group through “Razor Boy” for the first time since April 26, 2017. Next came the return of “Boston Rag,” which previously made a Steely Dan setlist during the last performance of Countdown To Ecstasy at the Beacon on October 28, 2016. The same held true for “Your Gold Teeth,” “Pearl Of The Quarter” and “King Of The World.” Watch a selection of fan-shot videos from last night’s concert:
