Acclaimed guitarist Stanley Jordan recently debuted a cover the Jimi Hendrix Experience classic “Foxy Lady.” Jordan was backed by a trio for a rendition on Saturday, July 13 at Catalina Jazz Club in Hollywood. Stanley then unveiled the solo version on Sunday, July 14 at the Keystone Wine & Jazz Festival in Keystone, Colorado.
Stanley Jordan has developed a new live tribute to Hendrix dubbed “Stanley Plays Jimi.” Jordan explained the concept in a statement, “This is my fantasy Jimi Hendrix concert if Jimi were still playing today. By re-imagining his music and channeling his persona I try to bring that fantasy to life.”

“This would be a challenging endeavor for anyone,” Stanley added. “For sure you can put on an impressive show with just 2 or 3 of his techniques. But I’m trying my best to cover as much of his work as possible while at the same time trying to build on it, which I think is really the heart and soul of this project. The truth is, no one really knows what Jimi would be doing today. But we do know he would have kept evolving. This gives me some creative leeway and it lets my own identity come through because we’re viewing Hendrix thru my lens. But it’s also challenging for me because I can’t do just anything; It has to make sense and to come across as something Jimi might have actually done.”
The Jimi Hendrix Experience released “Foxy Lady” on their 1967 debut studio album, Are You Experienced. Watch Stanley Jordan perform “Foxy Lady” solo on Sunday in Keystone via fan-shot video captured by evenstev:
