St. Paul and The Broken Bones released a new single entitled “Lonely Love Song.” The track appears on the Alabama-based band’s upcoming new album, Angels In Science Fiction, which arrives via ATO Records on April 21.
The group led by frontman Paul Janeway assembled with producer Matt Ross-Spang at Memphis’ Sam Phillips Recording Studio to prep the follow-up to their 2022 album, The Alien Coast. Janeway wrote the material on Angels In Science Fiction shortly after he found out his wife was pregnant. The 12 songs were penned as messages to his daughter, Marigold, who was yet to be born at the time.
“Lonely Love Song” comes on the heels of Angels In Science Fiction lead single “Sea Star.” Paul Janeway shared the following about the new song:
“‘Lonely Love Song’ was actually the first song written for Angels In Science Fiction and the template in which we wrote the whole album: simple lyrics with a simple message that cuts to the core. It’s hard to sing without my eyes swelling up with tears. The lyrics flow from denial to fear to the inevitable. Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
