Spafford closed out a two-night run at Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, California on Sunday. The Arizona-based band nodded to a pair of jamband legends by putting their stamp on covers from The Allman Brothers Band and the Grateful Dead.

The four-piece act opened things up with “Shake You Loose.” The rising jam act would work their way through their original compositions for the majority of the opening frame delivering takes on setlist staples “Windmill,” “My Road (My Road)” and “Lonely.” Longtime fan-favorite “Salamander Song” came ahead of the first surprise of the night as Spafford delivered their take on the Allman Brothers classic “Whipping Post.” Last night’s set-closing performance marked the fourth time they’ve offered up the tune since debuting it during their New Years run.

Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Aeroplane” got their second stanza off the ground. The tune from the California funk-rock act’s 1995 LP One Hot Minute was used as the springboard for a seamless set as their recently revived take on the classical composition “Musette” followed. The back half of the frame was highlighted by an expansive “Dirtbath” that featured Spafford dropping the Grateful Dead jam vehicle “The Other One” in its midst. The recent addition to their repertoire was debuted during their hometown New Year’s Eve show at The Van Bruen.
